The Object Oriented Technologies have changed the way many
businesses engineer their software systems. Major design mechanisms
are encapsulation (for information hiding and loose coupling between
modules) and inheritance (for code sharing and reuse). It is now well
established that an object-oriented approach can also bring many
benefits to the field of high performance computing, for example by
allowing the encapsulation of data distribution and parallelism in
classes presenting a sequential interface, thus fostering a
transparent use of the underlying distributed system.
Following these ideas, many prototype tools and environments have
been developed around the world, including in Europe. Despite this
important number of projects, the visibility of European HPCN software
tools projects is weak comparing to those projects carried out in the
USA. The aims of this workshop will be:
