Exhibitor's Reception (Monday, July 20)

The exhibitors welcome both Tutorial and Workshop as well as Conference participants to a get-together evening with wine and snacks at the exhibition area "Onder de Aula" on Monday evening. This will be an excellent opportunity for visiting the exhibition and making contacts with the exhibitors.

Belgian Beer Degustation (Tuesday, July 21)

Although Belgium is a small country it has a lot to offer, not in the least its wide variety of Belgian beers. On Belgium's National Holiday the conference participants can taste some typical Belgian beers in "Onder de Aula", the area where the posters will be displayed. Afterwards the participants are encouraged to go downtown and enjoy the National Holiday fireworks. The fireworks and other festivities are held in the "Warande Park", above metro station "Park".

Welcome Reception (Wednesday, July 22)

At the end of the first day of the conference, all conference participants are cordially invited for a drink at the Welcome Reception, which will be held in the recently renovated building of the Flemish Parliament. The reception starts at 19:00. No special transportation has been arranged. The Parliament can easily be reached from metro stations "Park/Parc" and "Kunst-Wet/Arts-Loi".

Conference Banquet (Thursday, July 23)

The conference participants will be transported to the attractive IBM International Education Centre (IEC) in La Hulpe, surrounded by forests. The IBM International Education Centre in La Hulpe is the European site for advanced professional education for IBM employees and customers. Its activities includes conferences, advanced technical classes, distance learning and web course development. The combination of technical equipment, full boarding and recreational activities makes the IEC a unique meeting place for professionals from all over the world. A reception, dinner and entertainment will be offered until midnight.

The third part of the visit takes you to the Maison Tassel, the Hôtel Van Eetvelde, the house of painter Saint-Cyr and to the Maison Cauchie, one of the most beautiful examples of Art Nouveau in Brussels.

Your discovery ends at the Wolfers shop, part of the collections of the Royal Museums for Art and History. This room contains the shop designed by Victor Horta (1912) for the Brussels jeweller, Wolfers. The Masterpiece, the bridal casket (1905) by Philippe Wolfers, is a very fine example of this Art Nouveau decoration technique combining different materials such as ivory, silver and baroque pearls.

Pleasure After Business...

The central location of Brussels in Europe and the timing of ECOOP' 98 make your stay in Brussels an excellent starting point to spend your summer holidays in Europe.

One of the most interesting travel links is probably Paris. It is only 400 kilometers away from Brussels and can be reached by high speed train (Thalys) in 1h25. High speeds trains (Eurostar) also take you to London in less than 3 hours. Other easily reachable places you can visit are Amsterdam (the Netherlands) and Kšln (Germany). These cities can be reached by ordinary train liaisons in less than 3 hours. All trains leave Brussels South Station on an hourly basis. Other places in Europe are almost equally easily reachable. From Brussels National Airport, any European city, ranging from the northern Helsinki (Finland), the southern Nicosia (Cyprus) to the eastern Moscow (Russia), can be reached in 3 to 4 hours flying. Furthermore, many overnight trains that leave Brussels South Station take you to nearby (approximately 1000 kilometers) European cities such as Berlin (Germany), Nice (France) and Venice (Italy) in only one night.
