Technical Papers

The ECOOP'98 conference invites high quality research and experience papers related to the object-oriented paradigm. Research papers should describe work that advances the current object technology. Experience papers should be of broad interest and will be evaluated based on the new insights the paper provides into the application of object technology. The programme committee will evaluate each contributed research and experience paper based on its relevance, significance, clarity, originality, and correctness.

Suggested topics related to the object-oriented paradigm include, but are not limited to:

Contributions for special sessions on Distributed Mobile Objects and on Object Implementation Techniques are specifically solicited.

Papers must be submitted in two phases:

(Note that paper submission is no longer possible.)

In the first phase, the abstract of the paper must be provided electronically via a special WWW submission form before (and including) November 24, 1997.

In the second phase, six copies of the full paper must be submitted in English, double-spaced and not longer than 10,000 words in length, before December 1, 1997. Papers arriving late or clearly longer than the limit may be rejected immediately, without being reviewed. The authors will be notified as soon as possible whether or not their paper will be reviewed.

Alternatively: Instead of sending six hard copies electronic submission of papers is possible via a suitably enabled browser using a special WWW submission form. Electronic submission will be accepted on the following conditions:

Tutorials

As in previous years, ECOOP'98 will host a two day tutorial programme. Proposals for high-quality tutorials in all areas of object-orientation from academic research to industrial applications are solicited. Tutorial levels may be introductory, intermediate and advanced. Novel topics and topics of broad interest are preferred. Proposers can get the guidelines for tutorial submission via WWW. Both plain paper and electronic submissions are accepted.

(Note that tutorial submission is no longer possible)

Workshops

As in previous years, ECOOP'98 will host a number of workshops addressing different areas of object-oriented technology. Workshops serve as a forum for exchanging emerging, late breaking research ideas. They typically focus on in-depth or cross-domain areas related to object-oriented technology. Workshops may last 1 or 2 days and will be held on Monday (July 20) and Tuesday (July 21). We are now soliciting ECOOP'98 workshop proposals. Proposers can get the guidelines for workshop submission via WWW.

(Note that workshop submission is no longer possible.)

Panels

Panel sessions addresing important and timely topics in object-orientation will be included in the main conference. They should present interesting and divergent views with slid practical and/or theoretical backing. A good panel session can be the highlight of the official programme for many attendees. proposers should request the guidelines for panel proposals from the address below or get them via WWW.

E-mail: ghislain.hoffman@rug.ac.be

Demonstrations

Live demonstrations of all kinds of object-oriented software will be presented at the conference. Technical members of the implementation teams are expected to give the demonstrations. Proposals are solicited for both commercial and in-house systems, as well as academic and corporate research. Demonstrations will be selected on the basis of technical merit, novelty and relevance to object-oriented technology. Product marketing or sales presentations are inappropriate for this forum. Proposers should request the guidelines for demonstration proposals from the address below or get them via WWW.

Posters

Posters provide an easy and informal means for presenting ongoing research to the ECOOP audience. This may be especially useful for new ideas that have not yet been developed to the point of a regular paper. Ph.D. students are particularly encouraged to submit a proposal describing their work. Times will be arranged during the conference for poster authors to discuss their work directly with interested participants. Proposers can get the guidelines for poster submission via WWW.

Exhibits

At ECOOP, there has traditionally been an exhibition of products and services related to object-orientation. The exhibition will be set up next to the main conference area, where participants have the opportunity to visit the stands, even during short breaks. The wishes of the potential exhibitors will be taken into account as far as possible, also in deciding the timing of the exhibition with respect to the conference.

ECOOP, the European Conference on Object-Oriented Programming, is one of the major international conferences in the area of object-oriented programming. Each year it gathers researchers and software developers from the whole world, to disseminate the state-of-the-art research results concerning object-oriented systems. In 1998, about 500 participants are expected.

Although ECOOP is an international conference, the local aspect is not neglected. On the contrary, experience shows that about one fourth of the participants are software developers from the organising country. To emphasise this local character, an Exhibitors' Forum will be organized. During the three day commercial exhibition of object-oriented products and services, from July 21 to July 23, participating companies will be given the opportunity to exhibit and demonstrate their object-oriented products and services. If desired, a direct access to the internet will be available. Moreover, all conference participants will be offered an Exhibitors' Reception on the premises of the Exhibitors Forum, held on monday evening (July 21th). The price of this reception is included in the exhibitor's participation fee. We hope your company shows interest in participating in this event.

The fee for participating in the Exhibitors' Forum has been kept low deliberately:

In return you will be offered the possibility to display, demonstrate and sell your object-oriented products, such as books and software. If desired, a direct access to the internet will be available. Moreover, all conference participants will be offered an Exhibitors' Reception on the premises of the Exhibitors Forum. The price of this reception is included in the exhibitor's participation fee.

Companies that would like to participate to the Exhibitors Forum should print, fill-in and return an exhibitors form to Eddy Vandijck (see his coordinates below). There are several formats available:
